What I Wore 2016

December 29, 2016

I just want to start off by apologising for being so MIA lately. I have been so focused on my new life at uni that I've pushed my blog to the back bench a bit which is not something I wanted to do. I have so much content I want to post, but it's just finding the time to do it that is always the challenge! My new years resolution for 2017 is to blog more often, so hopefully I can make that happen.

For now though, I didn't want to miss out on my annual round up of what I wore this year. 2016 by far has been the best year of my life. I've travelled, met new people, started new things and just had an absolute ball doing it all. It is so nice to say for once that I am incredibly excited for 2017 and what it has to bring. I honestly can't wait.

STREET STYLE : WINCHESTER UNI

November 16, 2016

It's 10am on a cold, Wednesday morning, and I have been tasked with finding Winchester's best street style. This is something I thought would be impossible given the stereotype of the hungover student, rocking up to a 9am lecture in a onesie. However, stereotypes were broken this morning, and it seems I have found outfit inspiration where I least expected it.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TODAY?

'me and my friend have just come out of a lecture and are on our way to get a hot chocolate and have a little chill. I'm a commuting student so after that I have to head back to Portsmouth where I'm from and then go to work. Tonight is a big night out though and we're going to go to BOP (Winchester's studnet night). We are all dressing as where's wally it should be really fun.'

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO WEAR WHAT YOU ARE WEARING THIS MORNING?

'well it wasn't absolutely freezing when I got up this morning so I decided that I could wear something that is actually quite decent and not have to wrap up in chunky jumpers and look like a slob!'

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON STYLE AT UNIVERSITY?

'um...I think it's quite casual. I thought when I got to uni that it was going to be lots of people with very particular styles but its not it is quite causal. I think a lot of people like me who commute, don't have time to make a special effort in the morning.'

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TODAY?

'I've just had a lecture and actually it took a lot less time than I thought it was going to, but I had a long time to get ready this morning as I woke up really early. I'm going on placement at a primary school next week and there is quite a few rules on what we can wear, so this week I am literally just wearing everything I want to'

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO WEAR WHAT YOU ARE WEARING THIS MORNING?

'I wore dungarees because I can't wear them on placement. I have the comfiest T-shirt on from brandy Melville because I just wanted to be comfortable.'

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON STYLE AT UNIVERSITY?

' I think at this point it's just what people want to wear, so I think it's quite nice that you don't have to make an effort but no one is judging you if you do want to make an effort. It's totally like wear what you want to wear.'

THE BAND TEE

October 11, 2016

The humble band tee. Something that was once resided only for the hardcore music lover, is now a staple in nearly any style obsessed's wardrobe. With it's biker chic look, it adds a grungy vibe to nearly any outfit. It's also such a versatile piece. Worn with prints (leopard as per in my case), jeans (mom or black and skinny), or even leather; you can make a bad ass fashion statement so easily. I picked this one up from Zara, therefor I have to ask myself the question - can I really call it a band tee? Either which way I love the bold text and contrasting red colour, which looks perfect with a bright red lip. Try looking out for band tees in Vintage shops. My favourite one ever comes from a chain of Vintage stores in Amsterdam called 'Episode', so I really recommend having a hunt around to see what you can find. Another obsession of mine recently has been black high-top converse. I am not exaggerating when I say I have worn them every single day since I got them - about 3 week ago! I love how effortlessly cool they look with everything and they are also super comfortable, so perfect if you have a long walk to work or uni.

CROP

September 18, 2016

It's late summer here in the UK, which means it is still just about warm enough to actually be able to wear summer clothes. A favourite combo of mine this summer has been culottes & a crop. I've ditched the dresses and donned what I used to think were the ugliest trousers ever - but oh how I was wrong. A crop tee and a pair of wide, flowing culottes is probably one of my favourite outfits to wear. It's simple yet stylish, and is also ridiculously comfortable considering that culottes make you feel as though you are still wearing your pyjamas. I love the contrast stripe of this basic crop tee from Topshop. Paired with a bold red lip (Ruby Woo from MAC), you have the perfect end of summer outfit for nearly any occasion.

STRIPES AND LEATHER

September 11, 2016

Leather and stripes. Two of my favourite things to wear - ever. I have 10+ striped t-shirts and really don't need any more, but I just couldn't help myself. The combination of this oversized stripe tee and a faux leather skirt make for an ultra chic summer look. This kind of look get be dressed up or down and is so easy to just throw on and go. The skirt is fab and a complete BARGAIN at just 8 quid - we have Primark to thank for that! I have hardly taken these items off since buying them and I don't intend to any time soon!

LACE UP

September 04, 2016

The lace up clothing trend has been a massive one this year, but it's something I've failed to get on board until now. I feel it's something that has to be done right, or it can risk looking a little tacky. This lace up tee from Brandy Melville certainly does it right though. I love the simplicity and the cut. Paired simply with a pair of mom jeans and a chocker and you have yourself the perfect every day grunge look. Alternatively pair with black jeans for a different twist on an all black ensemble.

ARCHIVE X ALEXA : ELSIE DRESS

August 28, 2016

So it seems I'm a little late to this seeing as though this collection launched in April...but better late than never eh? When I heard one if my style icons Alexa Chung would be launching a collection with the national treasure that is Marks & Spencer, I knew I would need to get my hands on it. The collection was based on the idea that Alexa picked some of her favourite pieces from the M&S archive, and then updated them for the modern day. Two of my favourite pieces (hence the one's I got) were the Harry blouse and the Elsie Dress. The Elsie Dress is a beautiful polka dot swing dress with a tie bow at the top. I saw Alexa wearing in the launch pictures and thought she looked so cool that I needed it too...! They only had a size 8 in stock so I had to get mine altered in order to make it shorter. Simply paired with a pair of boots this is the perfect girly summer outfit. It differs heavily from my usual black and white minimal style, but sometimes it's nice to be just a bit girly!
