Make-Up Storage for Small Spaces...

April 08, 2013

If you saw my room tour a little while ago you'll know that in my house I'm not exactly blessed with space. That case is even more so when it comes to my bedroom. Don't get me wrong I adore where I live and the cosy feel of the place, it just means I have had to learn how to make the most of every inch of space I've got. I am going to do two posts on storage for small spaces - one make-up and one clothes.

Today is make-up and here is how I store it. It is not a make-up collection as such, just more how I like to present it and store it.

I have a vintage chest of draws/vanity which I store both some of my clothes and make-up in. The make-up is in the highest right hand draw and on the top surface. I like to collect lots of old tins and jars which I then store things in. I think they add a much more personal touch to a space than just buying the mainstream high-street storage solutions. Each one of them also has an amazing story to tell.

I keep my perfume tucked near the mirror, my jewellery seperated on vintage plates; my cotton wool pads in an old jam jar; my everyday make-up essentials in a lovely floral Cath Kidston tin; my make-up brushes in an old jam jar and the two foundations that I am testing out/using at the moment. I like switching certain items around every so often just to make sure I'm using everything that I have.

In the top right hand draw is the main bulk of my make-up. I have two squares from IKEA that I serperate things out with and I also use old candle glasses to stand things like Mascaras, Eyeliners etc. in. I store the nail polishes I use the most so that I can see them and I also keep the other foundations which I don't use as much in another old candle glass.

I love to keep my lipsticks in an old vintage biscuit tin which belonged to my Great Grandmother. It makes me feel like I'm re-using a bit of family history! I like to keep them bottom up so that I can easily see which brand/colour they are. I also keep my Clinique skincare in an old Fortnum & Mason tea tin which I picked up in an antiques shop.

Finally I keep all my bath/shower essentials in an old wine box, my hair products in a basket that is from IKEA and my everyday skincare essentials in a rather cute Beatles band box.

I hope this gave you some inspiration for your own little spaces!

Make a Statement...

April 03, 2013

Statement necklaces are my weakness. I would buy them all the time if I could but I have to restrain myself. They add such a beautiful touch to simple things such as a white or grey t-shirt and jeans etc. I thought that I would show you a few of my favourites...

H&M Gold Chain
I love the simplistic design of this necklace. It is so easy to just throw on and add a bit of an umph to an outfit. It is not online any more but you might find it in store still!?

Topshop Skull Necklace
This necklace adds a bit of grunge to an outfit but in a dainty spring way. The colours in the necklace go with so many things and I find myself gravitating towards it quite a bit. I got this in the sale a little while ago so I don't think it will be available any more?!

Primark Beaded Necklace
I love how this necklace falls and adds a beautiful pop of colour to an outfit. This was an absolute bargain as I got it in the sale in Primark a couple of weeks ago for £1!

Scope Large Hoop Necklace
I got this necklace in Scope the charity shop in they're 'new' jewellery section. It was in the sale and only cost me £2! It is great for adding a bit of drama to an outfit as it is quite big and chunky.

Jacket- Zara, Top-Primark, Necklace-Scope, Jeans-Topshop (charity shop) , Shoes-New Look and Sunglasses- Primark (mens)

As many of my necklaces are not available any more I thought I would show you my pick from the shops at the moment!

March Favourites...

March 31, 2013

I have not done a favourites post since November *eek*. Don't get me wrong I've had many a favourite, but the idea of writing a long winded favourites post where I just ramble has been putting me off making them. I just don't want to bore you! I have now decided to keep them short n' sweet (let's see how long this lasts!..) both for your sake and mine! So anyway, this month I have been loving...

Tresemme Vitamin E Moisture Rich Shampoo & Conditioner
I'm not one to get too excited over shampoo and conditioner but this has really impressed me. After bleaching the ends of my hair it has become quite dry and this is just what I've been looking for to give it that much needed moisture boost. They are quite lightweight on the hair and just leave it feeling lovely!

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in 120 Vanilla
I love this foundation. It is much lighter alternative to a heavy, full coverage foundation and it doesn't mask my skin and make it feel horrid. You can read my review on it here!

                                                                    Sudocrem
So this is a bit of a random one but it turns out to be an amazing discovery. Now most people would probably think of Sudocrem as being something to put on a babies bum, but it actually works really well as a spot treatment. After hearing a couple of people talk about using it this way I thought I would give it a go and  much to my surprise it worked. I put it on anything I want to get rid of and leave it over-night and it dramatically reduces the size and pain of spots. If you read closely on the packet it does actually say it is good for 'acne'. Could this be a new holy grail item?

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick in '20'
I have re-kindled my love for this poptastic pink number. It adds such a nice pop if colour to an outfit and just makes me feel a little more summery!

Dirty Works Glow Girl Buttery Sea Salt Scrub
I adore this scrub! The smell isn't too sickly sweet, more like a fresh floral scent. It makes me feel so smooth and leaves my skin feeling uber soft. The best point though is it's only about a fiver so costs far less than brands such as Soap&Glory.

I like to dress up...most of the time...

March 17, 2013

Many of us will have those days when we just can't be bothered to make too much of an effort. When the prospect of thinking of something to wear daunts you and comfort is calling, here is my solution.

I like to wear jeans. In fact, I probably live in about 3 varieties of jeans. Black, grey and blue. They are so simple and easy to style whilst being really flattering and stylish. I paired my trusty denim blue pair with a simple semi-sheer, long sleeved striped top. Stripes are so versatile and easy to wear that I often find myself heading towards them on a very regular basis. I've also added my trusty leather jacket and a nice big chunky knit grey scarf. My main aim was just to be warm as as you can tell from the pictures, the weather was quite frankly- poopy. Note to self: don't go to a beach or pier next time a storm is brewing! I wore my Office boots to protect my little feet from the rain, and added my trusty ZARA bag to pull everything together.

Jeans- Boden, Top- New Look (similar here), Scarf- Gift, Jacket- New Look, Boots- Office, Bag- Zara, Rings- Topshop & Primark and Nails- Models Own 'Garnet'.

What do you like to wear on a dress down day?

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation...

March 13, 2013

Many people are talking about this foundation at the moment so I thought I would do a little review of it and share my thoughts with you all. This was quite an impulsive buy as I bought it when it had just come out and hadn't read many reviews on it. I had 10 minutes before work so popped into Superdrug to get my hands on it! I got mine in the shade 120 Vanilla. I think the range of shades is fantastic as they go from the palest to the darkest of skin tones which is not all that common in the drugstore.

I would say the foundation gives a light/medium coverage with a dewy finish. I am big into dewy skin at the moment so that is something I really like about this product. The concept behind Nearly Naked is that it shouldn't feel like you are wearing anything on your skin. I would say it is visible on the skin, but when buffed in really well with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush it does give a nice natural finish. It can feel a little tacky after application but that tends to go when I apply the rest of my make-up.

One thing that does annoy me about this product though is the fact that it doesn't have a pump. I can't even begin to comprehend why you wouldn't add one as they just make the application of foundation so much easier!

This foundation is comfortable to wear, last all day and I think it would be perfect for the summer when you don't want to be faffing with full coverage make-up, but you want a flawless finish to your skin. Overall I would really recommend this foundation as I think it is an all round great product at an affordable price. I got it on offer for £6.99 but it's usually £8.99.

Have you tried this foundation yet? What are your thoughts on it?

MAC Lady Danger...

March 10, 2013

I have now fallen head over heels for MAC lipsticks. They are beautifully pigmented, they last all day and they smell delicious. They are such a good investment and I totally recommend them to anyone. The one that has captured my heart the most though is 'Lady Danger'. It is a vibrant orange toned red with a matte finish. It is so vivid and I would say looks slightly different in various lighting. Even though it is matte it is not drying on the lips at all. I prefer it to the Kate Moss for Rimmel Matte Lipsticks as I find that they can sometimes cling to dry patches whereas this just glides on and looks gorgeous. I picked mine up from a CCO store for only £9! After discovering where you can find them at that price I am after so many more now. Next on my list- Chatterbox.

A Touch Of the 70's...

March 07, 2013

Today I had the urge to put a bit of 70's into my outfit. Not usually my style I thought I would embrace it but in my own way. I love these pilatzo pants as they are a perfect way of adding a bit of 70's glamour without looking too OTT. These type of trousers were really in about 2 summers ago so many people probably own a pair. (Who says you can't wear something that's not currently 'trendy'- I say make the trend!). Because the trousers are quite heavily patterned I added a simple grey top and my trusty leather jacket. Et voila- 70's glamour in an instant.

                                                                   Trousers- Primark
                                                                Jacket- New Look
                                                                 Shoes- New Look
                                                                  Necklace- H&M
